Weekly Playlist: 10 Feel-Good Songs To Get You Motivated

A mix of 10 feel-good tracks I discovered on The Hype Machine. View my entire playlist going back 4 years here.

Looking for a more chill soundtrack? Look no further than this blog post.

10) Marvin Gaye – Sunny (Mercury Edit)

Who can resist some Marvin? I know I can’t. Mixed with a subtle and restrained – but oh-so-awesome – base-line that pairs well with Gaye’s smooth, rich, this remix puts me right at ease. You simply can’t deny that well-timed beat.

9) Bahamas Music – All The Time

The ultimate summer long-weekend jam. Lazy, beachy, hammocky, sleepy. The perfect pre or post nap tune.

8) Meg Mac – Roll Up Your Sleeves

This song has been on repeat for days. It’s like the grown-up, cool version of the all-the-feels girl-jams of the early 2000’s (Hilary Duff’s Wake Up anyone?) that makes you want to go out there and kick some ass. “London, Paris, maybe Tokyooooo!”

7) Frank Ocean  – Hero ft. Mick Jones | Diplo | Paul Simonon

I’m a fan of all of Frank O’s music, but this particular collaboration is super fun. It builds up to the halfway point before breaking at the apex with a choir or children singing. Then, a mellow finish. What more can you ask for?

6) First Aid Kit – My Silver Lining

Okay, maybe it’s not the most blatant feel-good song at first listen, but Johanna and Klara Soderburg’s wrestles with “regrets, remorses, and worries” become a beautiful break-free anthem you can get behind. Championed by the hook “try to keep on keepin’ on”, anyone can relate to the idea of pushing through, searching for that silver lining. The music video is definitely worth a watch as well.

5) Doldrums – Jump Up

When I first heard this song, I almost had to hit ‘next’ on Hype Machine due to a borderline case of itching ear-noise. But then the levee breaks and boy, does it break hard. The super fun anthem that kicks in is complete with messy raspy not-really-trying vocals. It’s golden — just wait for it…

4) Generationals – Gold Silver Diamond

I feel like I’m wearing sunglasses when I hear this song. I can smell the sunscreen. It’s a quintessential summer cruising jam. Alternatively, great work-song to play on repeat and get sh*t done.

3) Ray! – Good Thymes Opiuo Remixx

Everyone has that song that, when it comes on, no matter where you are, you have to pop a shoulder when the beat drops. This song is it for me. I could be in a room of 5,000 people pressed together, all being dared to stand still, and I’d no-doubt throw a shoulder or elbow and give someone a shiner. Just can’t resist.

2) Iron & Wine – Freedom Hangs Like Heaven

A good head-bobbing knee-slapper that you’re mom would approve of. I normally have to be in a certain mood to listen to Iron & Wine, but this is more of an anytime song. It’s still embodies their signature whispering milky vocals, but has enough attitude to keep it interesting.

1) Starfucker – Girls Just Want To Have Fun

I simply couldn’t resist this one… Long. Live. Summer.
